Under the Blue
Dry cracks within smooth shivering skin surrounded the small ankh she held in her hand.

The royal looking cloth that was wrapped around her hand was now revealing the thread pattern and threatening to produce holes.

The ankh had been given to her from her grandmother, handed down from grandmother to granddaughter for several millenia,

She pondered what its purpose might be and why it had skipped every other generation.

Was there a purpose to it? Was it inalterable fate that had brought it to her?

Was the ankh in existence because of choice and determination over all these years?

Or was it representative of some incomprehensible mixture of fate and choice?

Fate.

Was it Fate that had brought her world to such a dire condition?

Maybe it was choice.

The choice of all those men who chose to follw the spirit of Mondor.

Mondor had been defeated for at least a thousand years now.

Why was it that so many men had fallen into his ways?

Before his defeat, it seemd that only monsters and abberations of human form had followed his ways.

Men seemed unaffected from his ways, and all that men had to do to was defeat the monsters to live in peace.

But after his defeat, men had started to live according to Mondor's tenants of greed and exploitation over other men.

One very greedy man had become the leader of them all and had given himself a title in his very name.

A title that had only been given to nobility and to the most honest, kind and heroic people in the world.

Now even this title had been defiled.

Was it fate that caused this to happen?

This man had obviously taken this name by his own choice.

Others had followed him by their own choice.

At first they grouped in small bands of 2 or 3 men just to loot their corpses for their own personal gain.

This had gone on for hundreds of years.

Most people could band together in small groups while venturing to protect themselves.

Later, these evil-doers banded together to rule the mines and dungeons where resources were hunted.

Larger groups of men also grew to protect themselves in these areas

he could see the time that this evil leader made the false promised in her mind as though it was happening before her.

"We protect you from the bandits," he said.

They were the bandits!

His men would ravage the people in the country side. when the cities gave him control, he just enlisted the people into a new form of slavery, forcing their men to serve in his army of bandits to ravage the next city.

The conflict kept growing and sometimes the evil men were in power, other times the good men were in power.

Now it had become so that the evil men were in power of the mines, the woods, the dungeons, and the cities.

Most men had become evil.

If there were any good men to be found, they were either in the most frigid regions of the north or a ghost.

She envisioned this evil leader with his white hair, grey hat, and red shield with all the despise that she could.

Protecting Each Other.

When the core members of Dark Paladins began playing UO, they just wanted to go hunting to T2A lands safely. They only numbered 10 players. A much larger Guild named V*D (Vanguishing Destruction) decided they were going to block all the entrances to T2A. It was these few members that beat V*D into submission to a point that they disbanded.

When the Champion spawns began in Felucca lands, a guild named POS (Protectors of Spawn) started trying to dominate all champ spawns. It was a core member of Dark Paladins that proposed that an alliance be formed to eliminate POS. This core memb...
